High-performance superplasticizer

Sika® ViscoCrete®-556 P EU is a high-performance superplasticizer and water reducer in powder form, based on Sika® ViscoCrete® polycarboxylate ether (PCE) polymer technology.

Sika® ViscoCrete®-556 P EU is adsorbed onto the surface of the binder particles and due to repulsive forces from the effect known as steric hindrance, the solid binder particles are very effectively dispersed in the mix. The benefits of Sika® ViscoCrete®-556 P EU include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Reduced mixing times due to fast adsorption
  • Excellent powder flow properties, even at elevated temperatures
  • Ideally suited for automatic dosing systems
  • High initial flow, long slump life and processing time
  • Neutralized and spray-dried uniform particle size
  • High water reduction potential for higher strengths
  • Enabling lower carbon footprint recipes for drymix mortar
  • Compatible with other drymix additives, e.g. retarder
  • Free of formaldehyde and ammonia

Overview

Usage

Sika® ViscoCrete®-556 P EU is formulated for use in drymix mortar applications. Especially suitable for cements with high C3A, sulphate and alkali content also for CEM II and CEM III. Suitable for a wide range of calcium sulphate or ternary binder systems. Sika® ViscoCrete®-556 P EU is universally applicable and can be used for the production of:
  • Calcium sulphate self-leveling screeds based on natural, synthetic and FDG anhydrite
  • Ternary self-leveling underlayments, high OPC and high CAC content
  • Non-shrink grouts and self-compacting concretes with low w/c-ratio

Application

Compatibility

Sika® ViscoCrete®-556 P EU may be combined with many commonly used redispersible powders, accelerators, retarders and other additives used in drymix mortar formulations. In order to achieve an optimal effect with respect to initial flow and slump keeping, the combination with another Sika® ViscoCrete® Powder is possible. Important: Always conduct trials before combining products in specific mix designs or additive-premixes and contact our Technical Services Department for more information and advice concerning specific combinations with other products. 

Application time

Sika® ViscoCrete®-556 P EU is added to the dry mix. For optimum utilisation of the high water reduction capability, a minimum wet mixing time of 30 seconds is recommended for the mortar before use.

Recommended dosage

Depending on the application the dosage rate of Sika® ViscoCrete®-556 P EU varies from 0.05 - 0.5 % of the binder weight. At high dosage and/or at low temperatures Sika® ViscoCrete®-556 P EU can also cause retardation. At too high dosage, the mixture may also tend to repet water or to separate.
