System Structure
Concrete:
Concrete surface should be blast-cleaned or hydro-blasted, followed by 2 levelling layers of Icoment®-520 mortar to prevent blistering of the coating.
Apply 2-3 coats of Sikagard® PoolCoat Add 5% of water to the first coat only.
Overcoating of old chlorinated rubber coats or other old coatings:
1 - 2 x Sikagard® PoolCoat
Polymers:
Sikagard® PoolCoat is not suitable for basins made of glass-fibre reinforced polymers due to the risk of osmotic blistering. In the case of doubt kindly ask for our special advise.
Chemical Resistance
Resistant against acidic and alkaline detergents, disinfectants and chlorinated water according to the recommendations of Sika Deutschland GmbH. Not resistant against solvents.
Temperature Resistance
Dry heat + 60°C, warm water, damp heat + 30°C.
Application
Ambient Air Temperature
Minimum + 8°C
Maximum + 30°C
Relative Air Humidity
Air humidity must be less than 75 % during the whole application and drying time. Avoid formation of condensation during drying (2 days) as otherwise a disturbance of film formation is to be expected. Water contamination during drying must be removed immediately by vacuum or using rags.
Substrate Temperature
Minimum + 8°C
Maximum + 30°C
Waiting Time / Overcoating
Between basic coating and top coat at least 1 day (e.g. 15 – 20°C). At low temperatures (e.g. 8 – 12°C) a waiting time between the coats of 2 days is recommended.
Applied Product Ready for Use
Min. 14 days after final coat, provide sufficient ventilation each day.
Consumption
aprox. 150 g/m² per layer
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
The surface must be free from cement laitance as well as other not adhering layers, loose and friable particles, corrosion-promoting substance. Contamination (oil and grease) or release agents, not adhering and not compatible materials, not adhering and not compatible old coatings.
The cleaned surfaces must be dustfree and touch dry.
For fair-faced concrete a test area is recommended. Observe moisture content.
For surface subject to immersion in water blast-cleaning later on is essential.
Cavities, pores and rough surface irregularities are to be levelled e.g. with
Icoment®-520 mortars before. The curing of the fine mortar with e.g. damp jute courses and plastic sheets over at least 4-5 days is particularly important in the underwater area! Old coatings: Old, well preserved and thoroughly cleaned chlorinated rubber should be roughened by whip-blasting, or grinding. In case of doubt a field test is strongly recommended. Other well preserved and thoroughly cleaned old coatings like
Sikagard PoolCoat are not necessary further to prepare.
MIXING
Sikagard® PoolCoat is supplied ready for use. The product should be applied unthinned except for the priming coat. Which may be diluted with up to 5% b. w. of water. Stirr well before use.
